Dignity and Care in Every Kit

Periods shouldn’t be a burden. Hygiene shouldn't be a privilege. At Red Umbrella Project, we meet homeless teen girls where they are—with free menstrual products, hygiene essentials, warm clothing, and emotional wellness support that affirms their dignity and restores their hope.

Service 1

Sanitary Products Distribution

For a homeless teen girl, managing her period without supplies can be frightening and dehumanizing. Many are forced to use unsafe alternatives—tissues, socks, or nothing at all. This puts their health, safety, and self-esteem at risk.

That’s why Red Umbrella Project provides free period products for teens directly to shelters, street outreach teams, schools, and transitional housing programs across Boston.

Each hygiene kit is thoughtfully assembled and includes:

  • Menstrual pads (Regular, Super, Overnight)

  • Tampons and pantyliners

  • Clean underwear

  • Body wipes & sanitary disposal bags

All kits are discreet, portable, and individually packaged to protect privacy and preserve dignity—because we understand that feeling clean isn’t a luxury, it’s a right.

“No girl should have to miss school, hide in shame, or risk infection because she’s on her period.”

Hygiene & Wellness Essential

Our services go beyond period care. We understand that homelessness takes a toll on the whole body—and the spirit. That’s why we provide comprehensive hygiene kits for homeless women designed to bring immediate comfort and restore dignity.

Our expanded wellness kits may include:

  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, and mouthwash

  • Deodorant, bar soap, body wash, shampoo & conditioner

  • Fresh socks, mittens, hats, sweatshirts, and scarves for warmth

  • Gift cards for food, transportation, or other urgent needs

Whether it’s the warmth of clean clothes or the quiet reassurance of a toothbrush, these everyday items have the power to say, "You matter."

“These items may seem small—but to her, they’re everything.”

Wellness Support for Homeless Girls

Well-being is more than hygiene—it’s confidence, education, and emotional strength. That’s why we take a whole-person approach through tailored wellness support for homeless girls.

Working alongside trusted professionals and grassroots mentors, we offer:

  • Self-care workshops that teach body literacy, hygiene routines, and self-worth

  • Hygiene education to break stigma and promote healthy habits

  • Referrals for trauma-informed mental health care and support groups.

  • Access to caring youth mentors and counselors

These services give girls the tools to rebuild themselves from the inside out. When she knows she’s not alone, transformation begins.
